• Superior user interface
DayMaker’s user interface makes DayMaker power easy to use. You can directly type or edit information right where you want it to appear- without the hassle of intermediate dialog boxes. Items can be moved directly by clicking and dragging. Color coding and simple shapes clearly indicate to-do status and priority.
• Instant access to vital information
Just click on an icon to change between the To-do, Day, Week, Month and List views. DayMaker includes the “Navigator” to quickly set dates, categories, and priorities. Change the day, month or year from a pop-up menu, and just double click on a date heading to zoom in on that day.
• DayMaker’s unique “Tag” system
The heart of DayMaker’s information power is its “tag” system. Create and edit your own categories (“tags”) on the fly. Assign one or more categories to an item by choosing from a pop-up menu. Built-in tags include “Business,” “Personal,” and “Phone calls,” among others. The tag system lets you see the exact cross-section of data you need. Focus on a particular task or project by filtering your information and creating specialized calendars or lists.
• Custom Views
With “Custom Views,” you can create your own customized formats for instant recall. Custom Views can be configured to display the information you want in each “Info Column.” Columns can include priorities, to-do and reminder status, dates, times, and tags. Since “Custom Views” store search and sort criteria as well, you can set up sophisticated searches to execute later with a simple keystroke. Seeing customized “slices” of your most important information becomes as simple as changing the channel on a television set.
• Flexibility and Customization
Sort your information in each view on item attributes including priority, to-do status, start and finish time or date, creation or modification time or date, as well as alphabetically. Define custom sorts that meet your needs and put them in the sort menu. Define command keys for the sorts that are most important.
• Open Architecture for the Future
DayMaker’s OAK™ “Object-oriented Application Kernel” architecture allows software developers to add functionality to DayMaker with software modules called “DayMaker Extensions”. The first extension will be the DayMaker Address Book which will ship late Spring 1993.
• DayMaker for Workgroups
When multiple copies of the upcoming DayMaker 2.1 are used on a network, DayMaker will be able to manage group schedules. Share your schedule with others on the network so they can view, create and edit items. The new “Multi-day View” shows events and appointments in a graphic, time grid format. Group scheduling capabilities include: automatic meeting scheduling, sharing calendars on the network, access control privileges, and “auto-update” for any changes to your shared items when you re-connect a computer (such as a PowerBook) to the network.
• DayMaker Address Book Extension
The DayMaker Address Book allows users to enter contact information and link those contacts with schedule and to-do information. Address Book users will be able to quickly search for an entry by just typing a few letters of a contact’s first, last, or company name, or by searching on any field. The Address Book will also include telephone dialing, sorting, import and export, printing, and DayMaker’s unique tag system.
• DayMaker’s Extension Capabilities
The DayMaker OAK™ “Object-oriented Application Kernel” extension architecture will be part of DayMaker 2.1, which will ship in the Summer of 1993. OAK allows software developers to add functionality to DayMaker with ad-on modules called DayMaker Extensions. Extensions add functionality to DayMaker in much the same way that Apple’s system extensions add functionality to the system. Installation is as simple as copying an extension file to the DayMaker folder.
Types of functionality that can be added through extensions:
• New main views
• Customized structured data forms and automated item entry and searching.
• Links to hand-held electronic organizers and PDA’s and specialized
import/export filters.
• Specialized group calendaring and scheduling.
• Calendar publishing and information publishing.
• Customized contact tracking, and time billing.
• Time management and resource scheduling for specialized markets.
